Kerala State Handloom Development Corporation Limited (Hanveev) marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Handloom Weaving Center at Shankaranellur in Mangattidam Grama Panchayat, Kannur district, on March 21, 2022. The center was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister K.N.Balagopal in a function presided over by Mattannur M L A  Smt. K. K. Shailaja Teacher.

Under the "One Loom in One House" project, a women empowerment initiative supported by the state government, Hanveev has received a grant of 4.49 crore rupees for setting up the weaving centers. Four such centers have already been established. The project aims to uplift women in the region, providing them with weaving training and essential equipment, including looms, free of cost. This initiative has empowered 175 women in the Sankaranellur area, enabling them to become self-sufficient.

Through the government's "One Loom in One House" scheme, over 750 women are being provided with consistent work and wages. With monthly earnings ranging from Rs. 12,000 to 14,000 through weaving, this initiative has become a stepping stone towards women's empowerment in the region.
